Experience & local attractions

Relax and revive at Waipiata, do as little or as much as you wish. The spectacular views, native forest and abundant birdlife will ensure your relaxation in the peace and seclusion of your own suite, the large 20 metre swimming pool or on any of the many decks overlooking the surrounding bush and water.

As little as a book in a comfortable spot by the waters edge after a wander around the property’s boardwalks and bush walks to the two small bays which can be explored by foot at low tide or by kayak when the tide is in.

Hiking

For the more energetic there are well formed tracks on the wider farm property following the foreshore and wetlands and enjoying the curiousity of the resident horses, calves, steers and occasionally sheep. There are also the extensive walking tracks and beaches of the nearby Mahurangi and Wenderholm Regional Parks, from Mita Bay to stunning Te Muri beach.

For birdlovers this area is wonderful with an abundance of kereru (the comic New Zealand wood pigeon) tui and many others. The bellbirds are starting to reoccupy the coast around here and you may see visiting kaka from the reserve across the bay. For bird and nature lovers the tramping tracks at Tawharanui or a ferry to Tiritiri Matangi are well worthwhile.

For artlovers, we have an eclectic selection of New Zealand art and sculpture here at Waipiata. We can organise a visit to the internationally acclaimed sculptor Terry Stringer’s amazing Sculpture Garden Zealandia which is close by and of course the Brick Bay Sculpture Trust and The Gibbs Farm are highlights for many our guests.
